Ramblings from Zambia....

Is this preschool???

The church I work for have a lot of primary and community schools.  In Zambia community schools were basically set up by communities to facilitate those children who could not walk the long distances to the government schools or could not afford the fees.  Now, in Lusaka we have a few of these schools and one of them used to do really well.  Because of poor management it is now really terrible.  The idea was put to me that maybe we could transform it into an Early Childhood centre as it is in an area with hundreds of young children who do not access early childhood services.

Today I went to look at it with a colleague.  Structurally the school is in good shape but needs a lot of TLC.  There are only a few children left at the school and its quite pathetic.  So, we are going to write a plan and see if it is feasible to take over the school as an early years centre - it would certainly be an exciting project and could benefit a lot of young children in the neighbourhood!

Back to the doctor about my leg yet again....more tests done!!

This afternoon a meeting with my team leader in Ireland - hoping that I will be going back for a break in the new year!
