NZ Autumn 2024

Armistice Day

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month 1918 the guns fell silent.

The poppy is used in remembrance of the fallen as the fields around the trenches that were bombarded by both sides stirred up the ground and the poppy seeds that can lie dormant for 100 years came to life.

My ceramic poppy came from the Tower of London Moat where in 2014 they marked the outbreak of war 100 years before. 888.246 poppy's were placed in the moat one for each fallen soldier.
Each day in the moat at sunset 180 names of the fallen are called out.
The poppy's were sold off, hence how I got one, and the movie raised went to the six service charities.

The Tower or London Poppy's

I have been told that the bombardments in France and Belgium could be heard in north London.
