Jervaulx Abbey

En route to stay with Sheila and Mike we stopped off for a walk around Jervaulx Abbey, another Cistercian abbey dating from 1156. Its prosperity came from sheep tearing and breeding horses. The monks produced and sold cheese which over the centuries evolved into Wensleydale Cheese.

The abbey is privately owned so there is a donation box £5 per person. It was really lovely to wander round the ruins then have a walk across parkland.

It was very special to stay again with old friends, the first time since New Year 2019/20. They really spoiled me for my birthday - we had a cocktail then a delicious dinner. Sheila made a fig starter and Mike did a loin of pork wrapped in bacon and stuffed with tasty spinach and more. The pudding was an Italian Zabaglione trifle slice made by Sheila.

We seemed to get through 2 bottles of champagne and a bottle of red wine between 6.30 pm and 1.45am. It was such a fun evening!
