A Day Worth Recording

Mid Century Modern Oak

Sanding.  No, not more Dune but gentle progress on refurbishing the chest of drawers.  Most of the damage had come good with stripping and selective sanding and occasional use of dye to recover some colour, but the 'meteor' is proving recalcitrant and I think it'll be filed under 'character'.

Managed to patch a couple of bits of missing veneer.  I'd kept a few bits of the associated wardrobe (which was beyond restoration) as a veneer donor.

Now to see how it reacts to the first coats of varnish, which can be a bit unpredictable.

Having found a "Meredew" stamp inside one of the drawers, I searched and was intrigued to find some still available from 'vintage' dealers - with this model as "Mid Century Modern* Oak... 1960's" for a mere £500.  OK, so worth a bit of sanding then :o)

*That has to be an oxymoron.
