Tree Rings

The saltmarsh here at Belhaven floods only a few times a year but it is amazing what can wash up from the sea. This tree trunk is now located near to the inner dunes where the sea used to come up to about a century ago. I am pretty sure it wasn't there when we first arrived thirteen years ago but quite possibly it was way over the other side of the salt marsh. The low sun was accentuating its tree rings and that attracted my attention. Doing a quick count the tree itself is at least fifty years old so who knows how long it has been pushed around by the sea. When nature produces such perfect geometrical shapes it is always very striking.
