An old crib at Taylor's Mistake

A friend and I took our cameras over the hill from Sumner to Taylor's Mistake (beach) in the morning, mainly to catch the sunrise. It was an amazing sunrise too, but I've chosen this image, for its curious and fascinating aspects.

Crib/bach/cottage - we use all these words in New Zealand for a holiday house, usually fairly rough and ready, and most often in a very scenic part of the country. Crib is usually used in the South Island, and bach in the North. I'd love to stay in this one! It's got a sign on it though, which says Danger - Falling Rocks, and it's looking very dilapidated, so I'm thinking it's been badly knocked around by an earthquake(s).

This crib would have a breathtaking view of the breaking waves, and intrepid surfers playing in the heavy sea waves. Taylors is well known as a surfing destination, for experienced surfers. It can get fairly wild in here! with huge breakers rolling in. I've never launched my kayak here - it'd be fairly risky, unless a serious southerly had really flattened out the waves. The walks out to Godley Head are scenic, and popular.
