Going batty

The Grey-headed Flying Fox is Australia's largest bat. Adults may have a wingspan of a metre or more. We stopped for lunch today at the historic Ulmarra Hotel, by the Clarence River, and this colony of flying foxes was roosting in jacaranda trees nearby. I'd guess there were about 200 individuals. Some seemed to be sleeping soundly, hanging like pendulous fruit. Others were squabbling among themselves, and occasionally flying loops (extra) around the roost trees.
