Of rich and royal hue..

We travelled home today, on a beautiful spring afternoon. This shot was a lucky one taken from the car not long after we passed Laurencekirk, and the Howe of the Mearns, that bit of North East Scotland made famous by Lewis Grassic Gibbon's A Scots Quair. This trilogy made a great impression on me as a teenager and was the subject of my sixth year English dissertation over 40 years ago. I always remember it when we drive this road in the springtime when the red earth is newly tilled and stands out in sharp contrast against the hills behind, even more than usual today due to the late snowfalls of the last few weeks.

We had a super weekend but it was lovely to be home and be greeted by Lola, who ran to us joyfully and presented us with an egg she had set aside from yesterday's egg-hunt! A precious moment!
