Buttercups

Buttercups growing beside the road. I don’t remember seeing them here before. No doubt that’s a result of all the rain.

‘Buttercup’ always sounds to me like a perfect name for a cow. The name is said to reflect a belief that cows that grazed on buttercups gave the sweetest milk and were responsible for the golden colour of butter. That sounds charming, except that buttercups are poisonous to some animals and cows don’t usually graze on them.

I think the buttercups in this blip look like a Liberty print, perfect for what my mother would have called a ‘summer frock’.
