Old Military Road

As it was Easter Monday we decided to take a drive up to Loch Fyne and have lunch at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. We were fortunate to get in, as we had not booked a table. I tucked in to one of my favourite dishes, a large bowl of locally reared mussels. Last year the Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd. won "Scotland's Best Mussels Award 2012". As you would expect the mussels were delicious.

On the way back I stopped off to take some photos along the Old Military Road.

I like the two arrows in the foreground and the drama of the straight road looking towards the snow capped Beinn Ime, which is the highest of the Arrochar Alps.

The Old Military Roads were constructed in the Scottish Highlands during the middle part of the 18th century as part of an attempt by the British Government to bring order to a part of the country which had risen up in the Jacobite rebellion of 1715. The roads were constructed to link the Central Lowlands with a series of fortified barracks located strategically across the Highlands.
