Power To The People

It takes a few days to to get into a routine of dealing with a power cut, even with a generator. Making sure there is enough fuel and the house warm enough to last until the morning etc etc when it all starts again.

I'd had a check of the lines down earlier and it looked a massive job to clear trees and put lines backup, it was already dark. SP texted to say power wouldn't be restored tonight but tomorrow we'd either have it back or a big muckle generator provided. So the evening preps were done Mrs C was just going off to bed  and I was all set to get up early to start the generator for her to have a shower before work... when 23.14... another text, power is back, check it and let us know. Whoopdidoodah, it's back I am not sure if they repaired the lines or just disconnected the branch line, we'll see in daylight.

Earlier in the evening we'd cleared out the fridge and freezer, seeing all the food wasted. There could not have been enough power to cool it, the freezer had been 9C, the fridge 16C. We have a chest freezer in the garage which we hadn't opened, so didn't know if food had been ruined, so after the mains was back I opened it and it looked all frozen still, we'll need to check in daylight in case the food defrosted a bit before freezing, but probably not. At some point we'll need to claim the insurance for the food loss.

So a load of our minds now, we were fortunate to have had some power for warmth, many others didn't and still don't. The weather has turned again today, it isn't nice out there, anyways, hopefully a boring old day tomorrow. And just in time for December, is Christmas still on this year? Not being keeping up to date...

The blip is us back at Newbattle Abbey and a felled tree. I do love wood and those patterns, shame about the tree.
