I SAW THREE SHIPS COME SAILING IN........

Well one Windermere ferry actually, but that doesn't sound the same does it.

Although I needed to complete the Christmas decorations today the weather was so lovely and I needed a few things so Hubby and I decided to go up to Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside first thing.

We drove up the A590 and then the A591.  We saw lots of examples of fallen trees and damaged walls, all now cleared up thank goodness but boy it must have been devastating immediately after the storm.  Some really huge trees with the whole base uplifted and showing their roots.

It was fairly quiet on arrival.  I couldn't get exactly what I wanted in the  Christmas shop as it is quite poor this year, sadly - obviously just suffering from not being able to get deliveries.  Still we made do, it's not that important.  Then stopped off in the cafe for brunch.

The whole place was properly set up for covid restrictions, just saw a few staff members without masks but the majority of staff and all customers were wearing them so that made me feel more confident.

On the way home we decided to go via Bowness along the A592 but stopped off at Miller Ground, walked up the hill, then down to the jetty's and through the woods.  We did check out the woods carefully to make sure there were no dodgy looking trees but apart from one, all looked pretty good down there.

When crossing a field to walk the last short stretch up the A592 to the car park we had to go through a herd of sheep but was surprised to see a huge flock of Canadian Geese as well - never seen so many in one spot, all munching on the grass along with the sheep.

Bowness was busy of course but not heaving.  What always amazes me about Bowness is the way people will just step off the  pavement right in front of the car - and it happened again today.  The young lady was completely oblivious that there was any traffic on the road at all!!!!!!

Lots of signs along the A592 of the storm, soooo many places with whole trees uprooted and branches having to be lopped off to make the roads safe.

We got back home just after lunch time and I then got busy with completely the decorations - I am glad to say that Santa's Grotto in Grange is now looking good.

That's all for today.  Do take care everyone and stay safe.  See you all tomorrow.
