Rough Seas

Even though it is April Fools Day, it's no joke that this harsh weather does not abate. Strong winds and coldness penetrates and makes everything a chore, just going out takes ages as numerous layers have to be put on to ensure a modicum of warmth.

We planned to walk down to the village this morning, but found the road somewhat impassable. The high tide was throwing the waves up over the road and over anybody foolish enough to walk along it. So we retreated to The Ness for coffee and papers.

After lunch we went to Torquay to drop Tom and Colin off at the Torquay - Bradford match, unfortunately resulting in a 1-3 defeat. Whilst waiting for them we drove to Paignton and parked up at the front by the pier. It was far too windy and cold to get out for a walk so we watched the people muffled up taking their dogs for a walk on the beach and the entertainment that is Kite Surfing. This involves foolish people stuck on a bit of wood hanging onto a giant kite that pulls them along the water where occasionally the person leaves Terra firma, or the sea in this case, and manages to change direction, travelling the length of the beach before turning again. Quite a spectator sport!

The photo is of Teignmouth pier and the railway line that follows the shoreline to Dawlish.
