Bruges Day 3

Planned an earlier start, didn't really happen. Breakfast, then went to the Sint-Salvator Cathedral. Flipping immense (but better than Winch? Unsure). Graham did the classic Graham thing and did a massive sneeze. It echoed. I jumped.

Next on the agenda was the Chocolate Museum. It was more interesting than I remembered, but there were also more wax models than I remembered. Terryifying. Saw a demonstration at the end, and got to taste amazing hazelnut truffles. We'd had an 'oh sure, why not' attitude to visiting the attached Lamp Museum as well. It wasn't so fab. We were the only ones in the entire building. Most of the rooms had lights on sensors so they turned on as we entered. In some of them there were wax models. In one of them there were wax models and loud booming music on a sensor. I screamed and ran. Graham laughed for about 10 minutes.

Back out into the mercifully wax-model-free world, and we decided to go on a boat tour. It was indescribably cold, and occasionally snowy. Learnt some pretty good Bruges facts, saw some pretty sights.

Warmed up in the Archaeological Museum. We'd been warned that it was mainly aimed at kids, and yeah... very little to read, lots of weird tiny doorways and walls to look over and steps... and a super steep slope that I totally failed to notice, and went flying down. More entertainment for Graham.

Had a late lunch in a cafe overlooking Sint-Salvator's. It consisted of a ginormous plate of waffles (and slagroom) with cherries for Graham and a jug of melted chocolate for me. I slightly regretted having a mocha as well: chocolate overload. We went to buy souvenirs and had to turn down the free chocolate samples because we were both so full.

There was a free English-speaking tour at 4pm. I thought it might be a bit pointless, since we'd basically been everywhere already. It turned out to be really really good! Learned loads more Bruges facts. Boy I love facts. And it was super sunny.

The tour ended in the square, so we got some more frites, then headed back to the hotel to defrost. We'd planned on going for dinner, but weren't hungry until about 9. We ended up in the square for quite a while, watching a concert to mark the start of the Tour of Flanders. In the end we left it too late to find food, so just headed back and ate up the gubbins we had left in our room. By some miracle, the presents we'd bought for people survived.
