Derelict Data

We have a process at work with what happens with old machines when we replace them with new ones.

First we give the machines, minus the disks and data, to a charity called PC Refurb. They then train staff in IT skills, creating future employment opportunities, and then donate machines to charities and individuals who apply. They bridge the digital divide...and stop us having to throw them away. All good.

The disks are stored for a period, motionless, unspinning. It may be that a customer has lost something.

Then after 6 months they then get shredded, and recycled with the precious metals being recovered.

All much better than dumping at the tip.
