A time for everything

Not an elf on the shelf…

…but a gnome on the shelf! I bought this addition to our Christmas decorations last year, and he sat on the fireplace, but this year I decided to elevate him to the mantelpiece, where he can survey what’s going on! It was a dull, very cold day today, so other than going to my 6 monthly dental check-up this morning - clean bill of health thankfully - I didn’t venture out, but kept myself busy inside, continuing with the Christmas cards and doing jobs, so I had to find an indoor blip.
The big news of the day, is that Laura has a new job in the field she was wanting to get into. She will become a case manager for an organization welcoming and resettling refugees. The job is in Wausau Wisconsin, a 9 hour drive north of us, so having lived in the desert in Kuwait for 4 years, she will now be heading for the freezing north! The office is a brand new location for the parent company, and they should be receiving their first refugees from Afghanistan in January, so for the first few months it will be all hands on deck. She had received word before the weekend that she had the job, but they had to check her references, so it was today she received the official offer from HR, including salary. She will be moving up there to start on the 28th December, so a couple of busy weeks ahead. Unfortunately, this means she will be unable to come with us as planned to visit Jen and Jason in Salt Lake City for the New Year. As I mentioned yesterday, the main thing is to find her a car - she and her Dad are making progress, but nothing definite yet! Anyway, she was out at choir in the evening, but when she returned, we celebrated with a glass of Prosecco and cheesecake!
