CIRCULAR WALK - SOUTH STROMNESS:  PART ONE

Extras - If you are interested I will take you on one of my regular walks, a walk around south Stromness (I call it Citadel Circuit).  Here are 8 shots from the beginning of the walk.  To be continued another day

01  Meet at the Cannon.  The cannon comes from an American Privateer, The Liberty, which was captured in 1813. In the past it was fired whenever a Hudson’s Bay Company ship arrived in Stromness.

02  Here we can take a seat and look out at the view over the bay.
03  Walking north Ness Road to Southend
04  Southend
05  We come to Login's Well.
This reads "There watered here the Hudson Bay Company’s ships 1670 – 1891.  Captain Cook’s vessels Resolution and Discovery 1780.  Sir John Franklin’s ships Erebus and Terror on Arctic Exploration 1845.  Also the merchant vessels of former days.  Well sealed up 1931."

06  Opposite the well, here is Norland, formally Login's Inn
07  Login's Inn plaque
08  Up the cobbled lane - use the handrail, it is very steep.
