A Meandering Life...

Quintessentially British

Bedale, North Yorkshire had a stone built church mentioned in the Doomsday Book, the current version of St Gregory's Church dates from 1290, with some additions.

Before that Bedale was granted a Market Charter in 1251 and it is still held every Tuesday (it's behind me! Oh no it's not. Oh yes it is...). It still has a number of very locally produced goods on sale.

Red post boxes were not introduced here in Britain until the late 1800's and the first red telephone box didn't appear until after 1924.

The later of these British icons stands empty and most have been removed from everyday view. Some have become mini libraries whilst others hold defibrillators and painted green. Public phone boxes have come and gone.

Maybe next will be post boxes. With so much competition from couriers and the internet I can't see the Post Office surviving in its current form for too long.

As for Matilda I'm sure she will live longer than most of the vehicles around her, after all she's got a 51 year head start..!

Edit: I have added an extra from tonight. Matilda went out to see Mother Nature switch on her Christmas lights... ;o)
