Pennies From Heaven

Well, from one of our neighbours actually! Living in a small cul-de-sac, we all tend to exchange cards at this time of year, and one particular lady always puts a few chocolate coins in hers, so I was delighted to see her doing the rounds this morning.
Apart from that though, little else has happened so far today. Some more tidying and filing, as the few final bits and bobs brought down from the loft are found a home - or returned to the loft, possibly never to be seen again!
Today is all about the evening as we are off to Manchester to see Rick Wakeman’s “Not as Grumpy as Last Christmas” show. In actual fact, we should have seen this show last Christmas, but covid restrictions led to it being postponed until this year. Not sure we’re in any better position regarding the virus this year - we might all be jabbed, but the new variant is more transmissible - however it is still going ahead, albeit under “Plan B” rules. Which means wearing a face mask throughout the two hour performance. I usually start to feel I can’t breathe properly after only half an hour of mask wearing, so judicious intake of food and drink will be required to allow a bit of fresh air into the lungs from time to time. We are also experimenting with using the disposable masks, rather than our cotton ones, as we think they let more air in and don’t steam glasses up as much.
Whatever, I’m hoping it will be an enjoyable evening of music and anecdotes. We saw him back in 2018 and were thoroughly entertained.
Given that Manchester was in the news today as an area where Omicron was spreading rapidly, one might question the wisdom of leaving the relative safety of Cumbria and heading there. But we’re both triple jabbed - as I suspect most of the audience will be - and it’s not that big a venue. As long as we avoid the crowds, I’m sure we’ll be ok.
