Angel's Bonnet

An appropriate subject for the weeks before Christmas! Usually this species is gregarious, forming large groups on rotting branches, but i found this tiny individual growing on a fallen stick, all on its own. This was one of the few points of interest on a rather subdued walk round Thorpe Wood this afternoon.

Yesterday was mostly spent socialising. We met up with the rest of the family at the Green Backyard's Christmas Fair, which we last attended in December 2018. Sadly, attendance was rather low, possibly a result of fears about Omicron, but maybe because the date had been moved, as a result of Storm Arwen. We bought some locally produced mead and enjoyed a plate of vegan nachos while we there.

Later in the afternoon Pete and I attended the Langdyke Trust volunteers Christmas gathering, which was held in a well-ventilated barn at Etton. It was a jolly affair, with live music provided by Pennyless, but after a couple of hours the chill had rather seeped into our bones, despite wearing plenty of layers, and we were glad to head home for a plate of goulash.

While watching television in the evening I had my first ocular migraine - an odd but rather beautiful experience which only lasted for about twenty minutes and doesn't seem to have left any after effects. I will mention it to the optician when I have my eye test in the New Year.
