Warm Cookies, Cold Milk

This is my grandmother's recipe for sugar cookies (and the little guy hanging on my cellar door).  The week before Christmas was an exciting time and I would jump off the school bus and rush into the kitchen to see what my gramma was baking.  Sugar cookies, cut into Christmas shapes, were often waiting on the table for decorating.  Of course, I had to sample some to be sure they were up to standard.  Later, they would be put into round tins to save until the "big day".  Santa had to have a plate of cookies and a glass of milk at our house on Christmas eve, a tradition repeated in millions of homes.  No wonder the big guy was so...big!  It is a wonder he could fit down the chimney!
