80 Years Ago Today

Two weeks after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, my parents were married at my mother's home in Carmel, NY.  What a scary time that must have been with the ugly specter of war an uninvited guest.  During my recent visit to see my brother and his wife, she gave me a small folder of things my grandmother had saved.  This newspaper clipping of the wedding was included.  I'd never seen it before.  I paired it with Mom's wedding picture and one of the newlyweds on their honeymoon.  Mom was 19, Dad, 23.  In 3 years Dad would be off to war but here they look so happy. I've always wondered who took their picture, but cameras of the time had self-timers and knowing dad, who loved the latest gadgets, his camera probably had one.
