Sgwarnog: In the Field

Blipbear and Kiwi do Dérive

Today I introduced Blipbear and Kiwi to the psychogeographical world of the dérive. We hopped on a bus to Harrogate and then drifted through the town without a plan or a map, waiting to see what drew our interest, allowing ourselves to be tugged to the end of alleys by half glimpsed ghostsigns, milestones, plaques and art deco cinemas.

My two guests probably would have been happy to be conventional tourists, and indeed they did enjoy the crocuses on The Stray and would have appreciated some refreshment in Betty's had the queue not stretched halfway around town.

Retiring to Valley Gardens for a picnic our Drift reached its serendipitous peak, as if Kiwi's beak had dowsed its way to this giant Kiwi sculpture. We found we'd arrived in the New Zealand garden, a gift of Harrogate's sister city, Wellington. And Kiwi felt at home.

Some more images from the day have been added to Blipbear's blipfolio.

Had it not been a Blipbear day, my blip would have looked something like this.

And finally, the first two butterflies of 2013 - Peacocks on the wing.
