And we’re done!!

18,784 children applied for and 18,784 children’s gifts picked, packed into bags and sent off to the requesting organisations. Each child receives at least 3 gifts plus extras such as toiletries sets, makeup, books, soft toys, art supplies or clothing so it’s a major operation.

The last set of gifts were collected just after 4 today and just like that we’re done for the year. The volunteers today unpacked all the gifts brought in from the collection points, picked the final gifts in the morning and secured the donations we couldn’t use this year in the afternoon. The unit is mostly empty again with the boxes of left over items stored safely in boxes on the 2 carpeted areas.

We all felt a little bit emotional and are looking forward to a rest and a chance to reflect. We’ll meet up early next year when restrictions allow (Scottish restrictions will prevent mixing with more than 2 other households after Christmas) to take stock and celebrate over a nice meal and some bubbles.

A few shots in extras of the empty unit, our notice board and the team (all bar the lovely Paul who was off doing a final delivery).

Casting around for a tiny blip tonight I spotted my wee screwdrivers - one of the best Christmas crackers gifts I’ve ever received - which come in very handy for all sorts of wee jobs, including tightening up my glasses!  Thanks to carol_dunham for hosting.
