Baroque

Decorating our house for Christmas is not an understated affair. Each year I tell myself minimalism will out, but I’m afraid extravagance wins the day. Not extravagance in terms of cost as almost everything is annually reused or foraged, but few spaces remain clear of some kind of seasonal accoutrement. The dining room mantelpiece is no exception, and each year is decorated with a baroque array of greenery and gold. Today’s main is a close up of one side, with the full arrangement as an extra.

Whilst this was done about ten days ago - refreshed with fresh ingredients as needed - other Christmas preparations take up most of the day. I’m so disorganised this year - it’s almost as if I’ve been afraid that too much preparation would jinx the very possibility of gathering as a family. So now it’s a case of last minute shopping which is far from pleasant. Still, making more mince pies and decorating cakes feels suitably seasonal and tomorrow our family gathering will be complete.

Our little trip to Dunham Massey has resulted in late blips over the last few days - and thank you for your lovely comments and stars - but hopefully I’m now back into some kind of routine and will soon have caught up with your journals!
