Lots of greedy swans

We were planning to go to the Woodland Gardens in Bushy Park to feed the water birds there, with son and grandson as we used to go there very often when our children were small……..when it was much less well known with no car park and no cafe!  It’s where our children learnt the names of many birds.

However as it was raining we just popped down to the river nearby and took some nuts and grain with us. All the swans etc were on the opposite side of the river but the gulls soon came to investigate us and were shortly followed by several Canada geese, some coot and lots of swans! The river was running fast so the geese and swans really had to paddle fast not to drift downstream.
We put some of the nuts on the decking and the swans were very keen to stretch their necks and gobble them up. The other seeds we scattered in the water and they were quickly eaten too.
