Melancholy

I’ve been listening to The New Anatomy of Melancholy on Radio 4.

Maybe not the best choice given the mainly miserable year many of us have had. But it’s still impressive that, exactly 400 years ago, here in Oxford, Robert Burton published the first attempt to understand and categorise causes, symptoms and treatments of this universal human experience.

There’s also an exhibition at the Bodleian’s lovely Weston Library, which I visited today, but it was closed, sadly…
