Amandine's Plot Treize

Sowing onion seeds

Onion seeds are one of the first things you can grow in the winter - traditionally people sow them on Boxing Day but I was away and then got busy with other jobs so early January was the next best thing.

I'm trying a four colour bulb mix this year and will probably sow a few seeds direct when I plant the seedlings out in their final location.

Onions are a pretty tough crop - I've had an onion bed covered in snow after weeks of cold rain and the onions still thrived later in the season. It's what you need as we embark in the winter, a crop that will take whatever the weather throws at it!
