Underpass art

After dithering about whether we should attend a Langdyke New Year's Day walk, Pete and I finally decided to do the BSBI's New year Plant Hunt round urban Peterborough instead. The number of flowering species we found was down on previous years (though still a very respectable 46), though this might be partly a result of a change in our route.

Our route took us through several underpasses, including this one which has various artworks by the Diaspora Arts and Education Charity. The exuberant explosion of flowers beneath a rainbow provided a real boost on a rather drab day, but I was also very impressed by the painting of a pair of joined hands making a heart shape (see extra). Nathan Murdoch painted the hands in 2019 and the image was widely shared after the death of George Floyd, being adopted by some supporting the Black Lives Matter movement .
