Welsh Gold

Our new year guests leave this morning, but not before a visit to Penderyn in Llandudno. Yes, you’re absolutely right - we visited on Christmas Eve, but for our New Year guests, this is an essential pilgrimage. We’ve had two Islay holidays with them, so whisky lovers will understand the obsession.

The distillery and shop are beautifully designed - sympathetically converting the old board school (latterly the county archives) with the additional of a new extension. Apparently it’s up for a RIBA (architecture) award, and sometime in the future I think I’ll return to photograph the building properly. For now, my main features the tasting bar with the morning sun shining through the whisky bottles, and as an extra, there’s G propping up the bar while chatting to our tour guide!

And so we’re finally alone again, exhausted after two weeks of hosting, but happy to have seen our friends and family. We’re allowing ourselves a couple of days to rest and recuperate before we restore the house to post-festive normality.

Still posting a day late - hopefully for the last time. Thanks so much for all the lovely comments, stars and hearts for Sunday’s Sea and Sky.
