Thank You For the Days ..

Windswept

Cocklawburn beach, just south of Berwick - I've seen it so many times from the train, and wondered how you got to it. Today we found it, just a few miles from the town, down a little road that doesn't go anywhere but there.

It's a long stretch of sand, rock and dunes and would be a great walk on a calm day. But the tide was coming in and not much sand was exposed. The sky was blue, but the air was freezing.

There was plenty of surf - but no surfers. Just one hardy little family and a few dog-walkers and us.

We walked along the dunes, and slithered around the pools for a bit before deciding to lunch and then drive on towards Beal and check the state of the causeway to Holy Island.

It wasn't right for crossing so we watched while water filled the channel. It floods in at a remarkable pace, and those refuges - platforms on stilts - don't look like a pleasant place to spend an evening.

We retreated in good order, stopping only to let the north-bound GNER race by.  One day soon I hope to be on one of those, heading south.

So, that was our first seaside visit of 2022, and a new beach for us. That's about as wild as it gets around here just now.
