Stairway to...?

Spoiled for choice today since I was out and about most of the day- from Dumbarton Castle to Saltcoats and then up to Largs and back home via Greenock. I was surprised at how much snow still lies very close to Largs though it was pleasantly warm in the town.

The real find was Dumbarton Castle which I had never visited before and although it's all uphill from the entrance the stairs are so organised that there are always flat stretches to hand.

This stair leads up to the French prisoners' cells, the magazine and the highest point on the rock. It is easy to see why it was such an important position guarding the approach to Glasgow and the upper Clyde. Well worth a visit.
