Nelson at the Trafalgar Tavern

A lovely sunny day, fortunately, as I joined five friends for a cycle ride from Waterloo to Greenwich. We cycled along the Sustrans Route 4 and C14 one of the new cycleways so it was on very quiet roads , part of the Thames footpath and other paths. It is only about 8 miles and did not take long.
Greenwich was very busy as it was graduation day at the University…lovely for the graduates to be able to have nice photos with blue skies and the lovely buildings plus the river. It would not have been so nice yesterday!

We stopped for a quick lunch at the Trafalgar Tavern which apparently is the biggest tavern in England? It certainly is a very big building, looks more like a hotel with quite a big river frontage. It is a Youngs pub and in the toilets there are lots of photographs of pub signs, we were not sure if these are Youngs pubs around the country…see extra!

Outside is the statue of Nelson and a plaque saying 1758-1805 “ Time is everything…five minutes makes the difference between Victory or Defeat” . Not sure of this is a quote by Nelson?

We decided to return to Westminster on a Uber boat…this was very enjoyable and quick. I would use the Uber boat again, much nicer being on the river than having to take tubes or buses.
