Life through the lens...

Inheritance

Cleaning out the bookcase ( didn’t get very far!) I kept coming across leaflets which brought back memories.
This is the front of the Souvenir Brochure of a Festival of Industry - Arts - Flowers to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of St John’s Methodist Church, Hightown, Liversedge, Yorkshire. September 1972.
( now pulled down)
I had recently joined Spen Valley Flower Club, and this was the first of many flower festivals which I have been involved in.

It was based around the book “ Inheritance “ written by Dr Phyllis Bentley OBE , born in Halifax. 1894 - 1977.
She wrote the book in 1932, and it was later made into a film by Granada TV in 1967.
The book starts in the 19th century at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
I can’t remember ever reading it, so will see if I can get a copy from the library.
Among the other books she wrote, mainly about this area, is a children’s book called ‘ Gold Pieces’ a story about the Cragg Vale Coiners.

The afternoon was spent at our son’s. DIL and I had a good natter and catchup while the ‘ boys’ watched the match on TV.
Great jubilation as Leeds won 3- 2 against West Ham!
