Nature by the River

Blaxton Meadow is a small local nature reserve on the edge of Saltram Park in Plymouth. It borders the River Plym and attracts a wide variety of ducks, geese and wading birds. Today, with quite a lot of the mudflats in the estuary showing, Blaxton Meadow was fairly quiet. There were a flock of wigeon, some canada geese and a few shelduck. As I arrived a ring-necked parakeet flew overhead and a little further up the river I saw a common sandpiper. In the woodland here there is also a nice display of snowdrops, though probably not yet at their best. Beautiful warm sunshine all day, although still frost on the marsh when I took this photo early on this morning.
