If you watched Geordie Hospital on Channel 4 this evening, you might have heard a doctor say his parents were Geordies because they were brought up in Hetton-le-Hole. This is not true: Hetton is in the city of Sunderland, so they were Mackems.

Hetton-le-Hole is not pronounced as Nicholas Witchell pronounced it when he went there to talk about Kate Middleton’s lowly ancestry.
