Driving me crazy

I’m doing a bit of an end of year declutter.   We rented a car to go and visit family at Christmas. A positive COVID test for one of the attendees meant an early end to the festivities in order to protect everybody.

That meant we had a car in London for a few days that was both paid for and couldn’t be returned because the rental place was closed.  I decided to make good on the promise I made to myself to rent a car and take a lot of the dead electrical items to the local recycling centre.  As well as dead electrical appliances (there were several radio, an old kitchen blender and countless small things with plugs on) there was a car load of other junk.

However, I can’t bring myself just to throw old hard drives in a skip. I think they deserve to be properly destroyed but it’s quite hard to find a company that will dispose of disks for individuals. There are a lot of companies that specialise in drive destruction for business but not so many for those of us who have a one-off need for a few units to be disposed of. Disks in this photo go back to the mid-1990s and have been sat in a cupboard waiting for their eventual end.

Perhaps a 2022 resolution will be to destroy them properly.
