Snow-shoeing at Solitude

Thursday December 30
Today we drove up to the Nordic Center at Solitude to go snow-shoeing. The city of Salt Lake is at an altitude of about 4,200 feet, whereas the resort at Solitude is up at 8,000 ft, and the tops of the downhill ski slopes at around 10,000 ft! Unfortunately, it took us a long time to get up there, the last several miles being bumper to bumper traffic. There is limited parking up at the resort, and this tends to cause a hold-up. You can take a shuttle bus up, but that’s not quite as convenient for the Nordic center which is separate. However, we finally made it, and Roger and I got our rental snow shoes - Jen has her own - and we set out on the trails, which take you around a frozen and snowed over lake, and through the forest. It was a very dull overcast day, but it was still magical!
