Thank You For the Days ..

The Tourist Trail

Another day of sunshine and blue sky, gentle breezes and moderate temperatures. I gave in to TM's hints, which have been getting less subtle, that we should take ourselves for a day out. He suggested Berwick, I said that if we were going that far, we should go a little further and have another attempt at getting over to Holy Island. And luck was with us, the tides were right.

The priory was 'closed' - but since it is ruined, it's possible to see a lot of it without actually going inside. It must have been wonderful in the days when the Priory was functioning and the monks labouring to produce the Gospels.

We spent some time walking on the shore - it's a great place to see and hear curlew, and there they were, working their way through the margins.
Then it was time to get back across the causeway before the tide came in.

It's not far to Bamburgh (main). We had another walk, all the way round the castle, which on the seaward side has a great view of the Farne Islands. A little more birdwatching at Waring Mill - redshank, and then we set off for home via the back roads. It's a lovely route through the foothills of the Cheviots, crossing the border at Kirk Yetholm as the sun was setting. That's the last extra, hope Monkus enjoys it :-)
