My mirrorless compact camera has more advanced focussing than my old DSLR, in the sense that it can recognise human faces.  It is not so good at animal faces and, unlike the latest cameras, does not recognise eyes.  In this case it has focussed on the dog's nose rather than the eyes.  Choosing the focus point manually was out of the question with the dog moving so much.

Nevertheless, our friends will probably like this photo of their miniature Schnauzer.
