Nature Diary, One Solo Starling

This beautiful little bird landed on one of our feeders and looked like he was summing up the meal he could see. We sat and waited. He took his time and then prodded his ultra efficient beak straight into the food. I perched on the edge of my chair poised for action as I waited for a hungry flock of his friends to appear.... He fed. And he fed for quite some time… alone. I was delighted!  He was a beautiful bird and I was thoroughly enjoying photographing him. I think it’s the first time I’ve been able to enjoy watching just one lone Starling, and it was a pleasure.
