Cafe Royal Bar

The Cafe Royal Bar has been at this site on West Maitland Street since 1863.  The building was designed by Robert Paterson opening as a showroom for gas and sanitary fittings in 1861.  When I worked in St Andrew Square in the 1980s / 90s it was a regular post work haunt.  I certainly didn't appreciate what a fantastic building it is with stunning interiors.  It's been listed since 1970 following an attempt in 1969 by Woolworths on Princes Street to have it demolished and expand into the space.  Woolworths slowly went down the pan and the Cafe Royal is still standing proud!

The morning run over we waited for a man to arrive to repair our oven.  Mister F contacted him by email a week ago, he replied the next day, got the part two days later and now he's fitted it!  Great service.
