Forest Lily

Also known as Unicorn Root, Sand Onion and Poker Plant. We rescued two pots of these from Molly's conservatory in 2020, and despite our neglect , they've survived and prospered, sending up stately spikes of pinkish flowers in mid-winter, when there's little else out.

Today I finally got around to identifying them as Veltheimia bracteata, a native of South Africa which makes a fairly trouble-free conservatory plant, that can be put outside in the summer. It seems we've been inadvertently doing just the right thing!
