Haymarket Development

A lot to do today so a lot of steps.  After an appointment in Dalry I walked home via Haymarket.  The development on the former Morrison Street Goods Yard railway site is going to be a monster!

It was way back in 2008 the Council approved the initial plans which were later overturned and December 2010 before new plans were approved.  The work that began in 2013 was all underground to strengthen the railway tunnels.  It was March 2020 before building work above ground started!  The mixed use development is for three offices and two hotels. Apparently in the middle there's going to be an "expansive landscaped public square.... the perfect place for alfresco socialising all year round."  I can't say I share their vision.

We had the Open History Society in the evening.  Dr Paul O'Keeffe gave a lively interesting lecture on the culture and propoganda at the time of the 1745 Jacobite Rising.  We also approved the appointment of Sir Tom Devine as the Honorary President of the Society!
