Prevailing winds

A walk up at the Isle of Thorns on the Ashdown Forest. Strong cold wind coming from the north today. These pine trees may look as if they are being blown to the right but its actually the opposite. In fact they have a distinct and permanent lean to the north-east (on the right), reflecting the usual prevailing winds coming off the English Channel from the south-west. So today they are leaning into the wind.
