The Million Things That Never Happened

Among the things that did happen today were: dropping Sophie at school, breakfast at Wetherspoon’s, a visit to the hairdresser for Tess, bread baking and car washing for me and listening to Billy Bragg’s “lockdown album” The Million Things That Never Happened.

I’d like to think the title track would bring tears to Boris’s eyes too but I fear it wouldn’t:

The Million Things That Never Happened

Two lovers meet in the park
Friends bond over drinks after dark
A walk on a beach, so far out of reach
And the million things that never happened at all

A last Christmas at the old place
A convivial chat face to face
The expectant delight of a Saturday night
And the million things that never happened at all

A wedding day planned for so long
The right moment to sing the right song
That significant date that you should celebrate
And the million things that never happened at all

A father present at a birth
A grandmother hears a first word
A hug for the crying, a kiss for the dying
And the million things that never happened at all

Billy Bragg

Worth a listen; it’s even more powerful  set to music

The view of the park during our walk this afternoon seemed to fit the song and today’s Wide Wednesday challenge
