Spring in the churchyard

Data entry and report writing filled my morning - and paying my tax of course! So much easier now that it can be done online rather than making a visit to the bank.

Late in the afternoon I made my annual spring visit to Sutton, where the cemetery always has a fine display of Snowdrops and Winter Aconites. After paying homage, I did a bit of plant recording round the village, and then wandered out onto the flood meadows where I put up a Jack Snipe from a rushy ditch, zig-zagging away from almost under my feet! The botanical highlight was finding a plant of Fiddle Dock, a surprisingly local species, although it's not at all fussy about the quality of the grassland where it grows. We even have one in our lawn!
