Portrait of a Cold Frosty Winter Day…

..that became sunny, mild and full of expectation for Spring. Our high will be 50 deg F and the predicted low - 40 deg F. Got up, had breakfast and cleaned the kitchen. It was foggy, frosty and cold so I went out to get a few photos. Hubby collected the recycling and trash while I baked cookies. We went to the convenience center, emptied the truck, and stopped at the store for a few groceries. Prior to COVID, local parishes (Protestant and Catholic ) joined together to host pre-screened homeless men and women (between 30 and 40 folks) during the winter months. They were provided two meals and a warm bed at the parish halls. Hubby and I volunteered to be overnight monitors at a neighboring Episcopal church. We donated some food that my children/friends prepared and served (tacos, said to be the guests’ favorite); the grands helped. We always found the recipients to be very appreciative. This year, the homeless mission volunteers will prepare our taco ingredients and serve them with our baked desserts. We dropped off our donations, including the cookies, to our coordinator while we were out. When we got home, the temps had risen considerably and the sunny sky was bright blue. I captured the improvement. They are predicting a longer winter but their accuracy is around 40% so who knows. Today, I could feel approaching spring warmth. After our late lunch, it was nap time. Hubby has a Knights’ meeting tonight, otherwise it should be a lazy evening. Hope you can find time to relax. We only had 54 new COVID cases today but one of them is my children’s first cousin. Stay safe out there. Thanks for dropping by to see how big our great grand is getting. “There is always in February some one day, at least, when one smells the yet distant, but surely coming, summer.” — Gertrude Jekyll
