The Flint Bridge

The intention was to travel to Parkgate to look at the saltmarsh, and then move on to Ness Gardens. But we stayed at Parkgate for three hours - Ness Gardens will wait.

The saltmarsh extends along the eastern (English) flank of the Dee Estuary. Beyond it is the river, and beyond that Wales. What was transfixing was the ever changing light, which no camera can ever really capture. It was fabulous. It was beyond blustery, a bone rattling wind.

The main blip is the Flint bridge, with a big flock of lapwings in the foreground. They (and others) have been sent up by a quartering marsh harrier. An extra shows a harrier in context over the saltmarsh. Other extras - a little egret trying and failing to conceal itself in the grasses, and a big sky. There was lots of those this afternoon.
