a lifetime burning

Other commitments meant that this morning was going to be the only time available for photography, which was a bit of a shame as the light was due to be much better this afternoon.  Still I had an enjoyable walk along the river looking for things to blip.  In the end I've gone for the grey heron.

This is one of a pair that seem reasonably friendly although the female heron was having nothing to do with the male when he got a bit too close.  Clearly he needs to work on his chat up lines, or personal freshness, or general presentation, or something.  They were a little too far away from me for me to be able to get a shot of that little altercation and it didn't last that long before they both settled back into the reed bed about 20 meters from each other.
